Our mission is to enable digital equity by providing affordable technology and connectivity to underserved communities through sustainable refurbishment and re-use. InterConnection is a Seattle-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1999, making information and communication accessible to underserved communities by providing affordable computers, connectivity, and knowledge through environmentally sustainable, secure, and certified refurbishment, re-use, and recycling. Digital equity is critical in today�s environment where access to communication, education, healthcare and employment opportunities is increasingly difficult without access to a computer and the internet. We have provided affordable computers to over 300,000 people and prevented over 6 million pounds of e-waste from entering landfills. Computers are often retired before their usable life is over. By partnering with InterConnection, businesses ensure that their computers are refurbished for reuse or recycled instead of reaching landfills, helping them meet environmental sustainability goals. For computers and equipment that are not suitable for reuse, InterConnection is committed to the highest standards of environmentally sound recycling and disposal. As the first U.S. nonprofit to earn R2 and ISO 14001 certification status, InterConnection provides sustainable IT asset disposition solutions for companies large and small. We follow industry best practices ensuring the confidential data and private information existing on IT assets is never compromised. InterConnection�s standard data destruction procedures are compliant with NIST 800-88 Guidelines for Media Sanitization and the Department of Defense 5220.22-M.
