In 2017 I attended a 1% For the Planet Global Summit in Boulder, CO where I met so many like minded companies. I was thrilled to be in the presence of for profit companies hoping to make a collective difference in the environment, companies who truly exhibited what it means to be a conscious capitalist. I met so many folks who asked if we were also a B-corp. A Bee what? We are an S-Corp (I think) I would let them know. They said we should look into it, as it is a certification where you commit to doing good on many fronts as a business, for the community, team members, social issues and the such. I was like where do I sign up? Let’s do this. When I returned from Boulder I talked to my accountant and attorney, both were unsure what a B-corp was. After more research I became to understand there is a vetting process, an assessment we as a company must complete and pass with a score to qualify as a B-corp. We spent the rest of 2017 and 2018 identifying how we could be a part of this amazing group of companies using business as a force for good. In the end of 2018 we passed and become a certified B-corp. We are thrilled to be a stand for positive change in the communities we serve. As Ghandi has said “we must be the change we wish to see in the world”. Let’s do this!
