Today, our maritime industry has never been stronger. You can see the strength of the industry at our shipping terminals, shipyards, cruise ship terminals, Fishermen’s Terminal, Shilshole Bay Marina, ferry terminals and maritime businesses throughout Washington. The maritime sector annually contributes $37.8billion to the state’s economy and employs 69,500 workers, with an average salary of $69,500 – nearly $20,000 above the state’s median salary!

But the industry faces significantly challenges including protecting industrial lands, transportation and freight mobility, workforce development, increasing taxes, and the overall cost of doing business in Seattle. How can the industry continue to thrive into the future?

Steve Metruck is the new Port of Seattle Executive Director and brings 34 years of executive experience in maritime, security and financial leadership to his new role. Most recently, Metruck was Commander of the Mid-Atlantic Region, overseeing 3,600 military and civilian personnel, and before that, responsibility for planning and execution of the $10 billion U.S. Coast Guard budget.
